Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine

From my early days in dentistry I have taken a major interest in oral medicine and oral pathology. I have a large collection of clinical and histological slides. Some of these are presented here in different series.

Most of the photographs have been taken by me. However, slides from other sources may have slipped into my collection, and I apologize if that is the case - feel free to contact me on the subject. The slide series here are presented without any copyright.

NBS - the Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Synrome (or Gorlin's Syndrome) is an inhereted condition - it is very rare, but the patients may have multiple basal cell carcinomas, even in childhood.

Lichen Planus is a comon chronic dermatologic disease wich affect skin and mucosal membranes. It is estimated that 2/3 of patients with lichen planus have oral manifestations. Approximately half of the patients I have seen had oral candidiasis as well. In most cases the diagnosis is straightforward. Hovever, in the rare occasions where only the gingival mucosa is affected the diagnose can be a little tricky.
